The Many Faces of Trauma

Not all scars are physical, and not all wounds heal. Sometimes unbearable emotional pain leads to escape through substance abuse. This has immediate and long-term consequences on the trauma survivor and their loved ones. 

Traumatic experience can lead to feeling unsafe, worried, and anxious. It can also manifest in a sense of helplessness, leading to depression and a sense of hopelessness. Often these feelings volley back and forth.

Traumatic experience often leads people to a feeling of overwhelm and need to control their environment, including other people. Trust issues, communication difficulties, and power dynamics will strain important relationships.
